2016 Dodge Charger SRT 392 drive review: A NASCAR for the street

Loving the Hemi, and the ride ain't bad either

Growing up as I did in a Dodge/Chrysler/Plymouth store in the ’60s and ’70s, I confess to a certain fondness for and great memories of old Chrysler performance cars -- Chargers, ’Cudas, Road Runners -- anything with a Hemi, basically. So I couldn’t be happier to see cars like this Chargeron the road. I love the looks, the power, the room -- it’s big inside and out, I like that. The ride/handling mix is fine. The car can be nice and comfy out on the freeway when you want, burbling along quietly without complaint, though I found it difficult to do that for long before being tempted to stab the throttle. I even like the price. This is just one hell of a lot of car for the money. I remember Stoy writing something about how the car “should come with a helmet and a diaper” for its owner.
Amen.
I could listen to the NASCAR-like exhaust note all day -- this is one of those rare cars I leave the radio off or at least turned low. The steering is decently quick, and I found the brakes terrific. And there’s plenty of grip so long as the pavement is dry. Love it. I’d own one.
