Aston Martin luxury SUV tested

 Aston Martin DBX

The sound of the Aston Martin DBX already suggests more than just elegance. The test shows how many sports cars are actually in the British luxury SUV.

positivePrecise driving dynamics at a high level, solid impression of quality
negativeSlow driving comfort, sensitive to ruts

Would the new Aston Martin DBX also pass the test as a Bond car? James would no longer have to change vehicles if he suddenly leaves the winding expressway on the other side of the asphalt into the Carpathian Mountains or into other undeveloped terrain. But let's leave that, we don't want to create the link from the legendary sports car manufacturer to the legendary secret service employee for the umpteenth time. So let's stay on the solid ground of the facts, and that's on the test site. Unimpressed by the really elegant, almost light-footed appearance of the Aston Martin DBX, we equip it with our measuring equipment and thus slightly disfigure the interior, which is so tastefully lined in the finest leatherAston Martin DBX

THE ASTON MARTIN DBX IN THE TEST

But the Aston Martin DBX not only attracts attention with its fine external appearance, the pressure on the glass start button placed on top of the dashboard also causes spontaneous rapture during the test. Because the mix of full V8-Bollern and overlapping overtones testifies to a skilful composition. That doesn't sound like heavy off-road workers at all, but definitely like a sports car. And that is not mistaken. After a measured 4.3 seconds - two tenths below the factory specification - the virtual speedometer needle in the electronic cockpit rushes over the 100, Tempo 200 is ticked off in the test after 14.5 seconds, the 2.3-tonner, which is largely made of aluminum, runs at a maximum of 291 km / H. The driving force behind the scenario is well known and has already established itself at Aston Martin: The 4, 0-liter V8 biturbo with nine-speed automatic transmission - also manually switchable using the steering wheel paddles - comes from the cooperation with Mercedes-AMG. With 550 hp and a maximum of 700 Newton meters, this drive is ideal for the large luxury SUV, impresses on the one hand with spontaneity and on the other hand with cultivated running. Even the consumption in the mixed test operation of 13.5 liters per 100 kilometers is okay in view of the performance level. After checking the impeccable braking performance, we turn off the longitudinal dynamic section into the mountain and valley meandering of the Eifel - actually no terrain for the almost two meter wide SUV chunk. And in fact the Aston Martin DBX still moves a little awkwardly and rumble through narrow town throughs on its 22-inch mixed tires (Pirelli P Zero) and lets you feel some manhole covers roughly and noisily. The rather narrow, but well-contoured seats partially dampen this and also provide good support.Aston Martin DBX
